I became interested in the baking of these cookies because of Coco, my beautiful Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. No matter what I was doing for Coco, she suffered from chronic yeast infections in her ears. My vet conducted allergy tests and has tried all the medicines but nothing seemed to attack it. Coco had been eating a particular cookie for the last five years – the name is unimportant. I discovered that an ingredient in these cookies and the majority of dog cookies is Brewer's Yeast and I thought that might be contributing to her ear infections. Coco was already on a wheat and corn free diet. SO, I wanted to find a natural dog cookie without corn, wheat or yeast. I searched the internet for dog cookie recipes, researched all the cookie recipes my Mom and I had, asked my fellow wheaten friends for advice and a few told me that they bake cookies for their dogs. I also consulted a variety of Health Food Store owners and they have helped me create some of the recipes. I NEVER BAKED COOKIES BEFORE I STARTED TO BAKE COOKIES FOR COCO. Martha Stewart I'm not! It was trial and error but with each and every error, I noticed the infection in her ears was clearing up – no more awful smell… no black stuff and cleaning them became easier for both of us. I contacted my fellow wheaten owners on the Wheaten-L Mailing List, met others at the West Palm Beach Dog Show and at out Wheaten Picnic at CB Smith Park and discovered I was on to something. Many of the owners felt that they had little or no time to even bake cookies for their children so if someone would do it that would be great. I then decided that a percentage of the profits would be donated to Wheatens In Need Rescue and Adoption (WIN) and to Wheaten Health. Packaging and shipping were rough in the beginning, but I have resolved those problems. I feel in this new century it's time for not only us to eat healthy but for our beloved pets to eat healthy too. So many dogs suffer from food allergies and are unable to have a treat and I wanted to create cookies they could eat. In addition, Rolling N Dough Inc. has introduced treats for your finicky cat made by The Purrfect Solution. I am a resident of Florida, employed by the United States Department of Justice for over 30 years. Coco, Mikey and I are actively involved with Project Pups, a pet therapy organization in Sunrise, Florida, that involves going to nursing homes and visiting with the elderly and we have received the Attorney General Award for Volunteerism for the last five years. Coco is a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier that is a senior citizen but full of pranks, kisses and whirls. Mikey from Minny Soda had joined our family, is having a blast with his sister Coco and has been promoted to Cookie Inspector, leaving Coco as Chief Cookie Taster! |
